Looking for a shortest possible Gobi tour without domestic flights? This 5-day Gobi overland tour lets you explore the most iconic sites of the Gobi Desert, including Khongor Sand Dune, Yol Valley, Flaming Cliffs, and Tsagaan Suvarga. Please note that the driving on the first and last days is longer, but the journey rewards you with unforgettable desert landscapes and authentic nomadic experiences.

Itinerary

In the early morning at 7:00am your guide and driver will pick you up from your guest house or Chinghis Khaan airport. Then we will drive towards Tsagaan Suvarga. We will drive through rolling hills and the steppe of the Middle Gobi province.

On the way, we will have lunch at local restaurant. Upon arrival at the Ger camp check in and relax. Tsagaan Suvarga is a steep colorful limestone slope that once was an ancient sea bed, featuring a sedimentary structure that was created over millions of years.

Accommodation: Tourist Ger camp.
Meals: Lunch, and Dinner.

In the early morning your guide and driver will pick you up and depart to the Bayanzag which means ‘rich in saxaul shrubs’, was once an ancient sea bed. This amazing place is more commonly known as ‘Flaming Cliffs’ and is where many Paleontological findings have been discovered. We will explore the significant area, including the saxaul trees, and wander on the red hillocks.

Our excursion continues to the extraordinary Khongor sand dune, one of Mongolia’s most iconic desert landscapes. Visit a local camel herder family in their traditional ger to learn about their lifestyle, explore their daily routines, and taste fermented mare’s milk, a traditional Mongolian drink. Afterwards, ride a camel across the dunes, an unforgettable experience in the heart of the desert. Mongolia is home to two-thirds of the world’s Bactrian camels, making this encounter truly authentic. The next excursion is to the beautiful green oasis of Seruun Bulag near the Khongor River and dunes. Then, climb up to the highest point of dunes called Singing Dune.

After relaxing breakfast, depart to the mountain valley named “Yol Valley” - which shows unusual scenery. On the way, you will have lunch at Bayandalai village. At Yolyn Am, you will do pleasant hiking or you can ride a horse (pay directly to the horse owner) to reach the end of the gorge with thick ice layers throughout the year. Surrounding mountains are home to eagles, elusive wild sheep and ibexes, and many birds of prey, as well as numerous small rodents.

In the morning at 9 am, we will return to Ulaanbaatar and have lunch on the way.

Upon arrival we will visit to attend Cultural folk show concert in the city, which is featuring traditional performances by singers, dancers, and contortionists. It’s a great chance to hear Khöömii (throat singing) and see some fabulous costumes. Transfer to your hotel.

🍽️ Meals in Mongolia Tours

Most of our Mongolia tour packages include full-board meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In Ulaanbaatar, lunches or dinners are served at popular local restaurants, giving you the opportunity to experience genuine Mongolian cuisine and the country’s unique dining culture. At tourist ger camps, lunches and dinners are pre-arranged and include 3–4 courses — soup and/or salad, main dish, dessert, and bottled water. If your itinerary includes stops at local roadside restaurants, you’ll be able to choose meals directly from the menu. In Ulaanbaatar, a wider range of cuisines — including Korean, Japanese, and Chinese dishes — is available upon request.

Special Diets: Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals are available with advance notice.

In the Countryside: During your trip, you’ll stay in Tourist Ger Camps, Mongolia’s signature accommodation. Each camp features traditional Gers (yurts) with scenic surroundings.

Winter Tours
