Planning a winter trip in February? Consider a Lunar New Year tour in Mongolia. Experience one of the country’s biggest celebrations while gaining an in-depth understanding of nomadic life and culture. The itinerary can be fully customized to suit your preferences.

Itinerary

Your private tour guide and driver pick you up from your hotel and accompany you to Elsen Tasarkhai - the beautiful sand dunes is covered with rare bushes shrubs such as willow, elm and dogwood and a small forest near a river
There, we will visit very hospitable local camel herder family in their Ger, explore their unique nomadic lifestyle.  Upon arrival, have lunch and do camel riding on sand dunes. Then you have opportunity to witness how nomads ceremonially prepare for their Lunar New Year and celebrate Lunar New Year eve with nomads. Have an overnight in a warm fire heating ger of the nomad family.

Today is the special day Lunar New Year (Tsagaan Sar) that you will certainly be excited and learn so many customs of Mongolia. First a hostess offers the first cup of tea with milk to the gods, throwing it out in all directions. After greeting of special ritual called “zolgokh” with each other at home, people visit their whole relatives and friends; celebrate the national holiday Tsagaan Sar (Lunar New Year) with nomads. In the evening, let us take you to the world’s last wild horse (never domesticated), Takhi in Hustai National Park with open steppe, a river valley, birch forest and mountains.   
Accommodation: Nomad family. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

At 9.00am depart for Terelj National Park. the nearest and the most breathtaking sightseeing from the capital Ulaanbaatar. Following lunch, we will explore the national park and
see Turtle Rock - the symbol of the National Park. You can climb on the rock if you want. Also, visit the Ariyabal meditation temple.
      Once you reach the temple and stand on the top of hill, you will be amused by the whole park view. Dinner and overnight at the local hotel or tourist camp in the national park. 
Accommodation: Tourist camp.  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

After relaxing breakfast, head to “Genghis Khan Statue Complex” which is currently the biggest (40m high) equestrian statue in the world. You can go inside and enjoy museums, souvenir shops. 
Return to Ulaanbaatar and you will be transferred to a location of your choice.

🍽️ Meals in Mongolia Tours

Most of our Mongolia tour packages include full-board meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In Ulaanbaatar, lunches or dinners are served at popular local restaurants, giving you the opportunity to experience genuine Mongolian cuisine and the country’s unique dining culture. At tourist ger camps, lunches and dinners are pre-arranged and include 3–4 courses — soup and/or salad, main dish, dessert, and bottled water. If your itinerary includes stops at local roadside restaurants, you’ll be able to choose meals directly from the menu. In Ulaanbaatar, a wider range of cuisines — including Korean, Japanese, and Chinese dishes — is available upon request.

Special Diets: Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals are available with advance notice.

In the Countryside: During your trip, you’ll stay in Tourist Ger Camps, Mongolia’s signature accommodation. Each camp features traditional Gers (yurts) with scenic surroundings.

Winter Tours
