Highlights

About the Natural Features

Buir Lake is fed by the Khalkha River and drains via the Orshuun River, creating dense vegetation along the shores including willows and reeds. Its southeastern shore is sandy and shallow, providing ideal nesting grounds for migratory birds.

The lake supports a rich aquatic ecosystem with species like carp, pike, salmon, scorpionfish, and whitefish. Birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts often come to observe waterfowl that congregate around the lake, especially during migration seasons.

The Legend of the Buir

According to legend, a beautiful girl named Hulun was captured by a fifteen-headed black monster, and the lake formed from her tears. Buir, her beloved, defeated the monster but could not find Hulun, who had become a lake. In grief, Buir jumped into the lake, and another lake formed beside it, now known as Buir Lake.
