Genghis Khan's Statue Complex
Genghis Khan's Statue Complex was set up in 2008 on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the Mongolian Empire to honor the glory of Genghis Khaan (Chinggis Khan). It's located 54 kilometers (33, 55 miles) away from Ulan Bator, in the place named Tsonjin Boldog in the territory of Erdene soum.
The statue of Chinggis Khaan on horseback made of stainless steel weights 250 tons and height 40 meters, the tallest statue in the world now. According to legend, Genghis Khan found a golden whip in this place, Tsonjin Boldog. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. It stands on a 10-meters high base that is surrounded by 36 columns representing the 36 kings of Mongolia from the founder of Great Mongolia, Chinggis Khan to Ligden Khan, the last king.
Visitors can go inside and enjoy museums, souvenir shops, and restaurants. Finally, you can go with the elevator to the head of the horse and are surprised by the whole look.
When the Genghis Khaan statue complex is completed fully, it will be surrounded by 200 Gers with modern technology, a golf course, an open-air theater, an artificial lake, and 10,000 trees will be planted.
Legend:
In 1177, Genghis Khan, along with his younger brothers Khasar and Belgutei, sought help and presented a sable robe to Tooril Khaan of Hereid who was the best friend of Genghis Khan’s father. Then on his way, he found a golden whip on that area. In Mongolian tradition, finding a whip is considered a symbolic event and a sign of good fortune.
